Accumulation Conveyors
Accumulating Conveyors
Accumulation conveyor is a very useful and important of many conveyor systems currently in operation. An accumulation conveyor
is used when a conveyor system has many loads feeding into a point where one operation must be performed on each load. Common
accumulation uses would be feeding a load into a weigh station, cast sealer, palletizer or pallet wrap station. Accumulating
conveyors work by utilizing small pressure sensitive rollers that sit just above the main rollers. When a load depresses these
rollers, it triggers the conveyor to stop motion on that particular zone.
Two types of accumulating conveyors are most common - zero pressure and minimal pressure. With zero pressure accumulation conveyor,
loads are prevented from touching each other on the accumulation line. The conveyor leaves gaps between each load so there are no
collisions. With minimal pressure accumulation, the loads are allowed to touch, however very little back pressure is built up so as
not to damage the loads. Accumulation conveyor is very important when you have further processing that must be performed on your loads.
Without it your conveyor system would cease to operate as it became more and more backed up.

Lineshaft Conveyor
Lineshaft conveyor is included here because although not all lineshaft conveyor is accumulation conveyor, it's very common to use
lineshaft for accumulation. Lineshaft conveyor is a unique solution to powering a conveyor line. It's design utilizes a drive
shaft that is connected to each individual roller via small rubber belts. These belts transform the motion of the shaft into power
for the rollers. Since the rollers are held tight to the frame by the belts, there is comparitively little noise with lineshaft
conveyor when compared to traditional powered roller conveyor.
Because the rollers are individually powered, lineshaft is often used for accumulation. Lineshaft can also be used for transportation
and often times both are combined in the same system. Some lineshaft can be operated either forward or backward depending on the
application.
