Sortation Conveyor
Sourcing a sortation conveyor system can be a very daunting and exhaustive process - one that should not be taken lightly.
With over 30 years of experience designing, selling and implementing conveyor systems, you could say that we are conveyor
systems experts. We have the tools and the knowhow to assist you with any conveyor system - large or small. Whether it's
conveyor system maintenance or simply replacing our key components, we've got you covered.
Below is a sampling of the types of sortation conveyor systems currently on the market.
Sortation Conveyor Types & Uses
Cross Belt Sorters
Cross-belt sorters are great if you need a sortation system in a quiet environment. They are also good for having multiple
sort locations very close together. Cross Belt sortation systems can also be configured in a variety of layouts such as
straight, "L" shaped or oval paths. Cross-belt sorters can also work on an incline or decline with no problems.

Tilt Tray Sorters
A Tilt Tray Sorter is also useful in quieter environments. These sortation systems work by using trays that are connected
in a long chain to dump a load either to the left or to the right. The trays typically will dump onto slides or into chutes
that are routed to the appropriate location. Tilt tray sorters work best with small items, or items that are delicate. They
are also great for flat items such as CD's, DVD's and books.

Tilt Slat Sorters
Tilt Slat Sorters are very similar to tilt tray sorters. The slats are connected in a long chain and can dump the loads either
to the left or to the right into a chute or slide. The loads all travel in very close proximity and each slat can be tilted
individually to control the sortation. Tilt slat sortation can typically handle heavier loads than tilt-tray sorters.

Pop-Up Belt and Pop-up Chain Sorters
These sorters move loads from a main conveyor line to either the right or left by usilizing a chain or belt that pops up from
beneath the main rollers. This pop-up belt/chain moves at a very high speed to pull the load off of the main conveyor line.
A belt would usually be used where the load is not very heavy. A chain can move heavier loads. Typically the load is pulled
from the main line onto an angled spur which then moves it to the appropriate destination.

Sliding Shoe Sorters
Sliding shoe sorters are known for their incredibly fast continuous sorting abilities. This type of sort system uses a number
of sliding "shoes" that sit between the rollers of the conveyor. These shoes are located at either side of the conveyor roller and
when a load needs to be diverted, the shoes create a new lane by sliding the load to the left or right. This motion eases the load
onto a spur located next to the line of travel. These systems usually utilize photo eyes that can read a bar code or other mark on
the load which then tells the system where it needs to go.

Pusher and Diverter Sorters
Pusher/Diverter sortation systems use a mechanism that physically pushes a load off of the main conveyor run. These units are
good for sorting heavy loads. Pusher/Diverters are used for low to medium speed sortation because after the pusher pushes a
load off of the conveyor, the entire arm must then return across the conveyor before the next load arrives. The sort points in a
pusher system are typically located fairly close to one another.

Pop-up Roller Sorters
A pop-up roller sorter uses very high speed rollers that sit between and beneath belts on the main conveyor line. These rollers get traction
on the front end of the load and then shunt it off onto another conveyor line. The pop-up rollers are driven by their own motor
and operate independantly of the main conveyor. These sort systems can be used for light to medium duty loads.

Swivel Wheel/Roller Sortation
Swivel wheel sorters can work with either belt or roller conveyors to divert a load using a drive wheel to push a package
off to the left or right. The wheel can swivel either in the direction of flow or off to the left or right to allow the load
to pass through the sort point or be diverted. These sorters can have divert points very close together.
